What You Should Know if You've Been Involved
in an Auto Accident

Did you know that some auto accident injuries are hidden and seldom detected for months after the accident? As a result, the accident victim may have underlying injuries that could be seriously effecting the health of the involved person. No matter how "small" you may think the accident, research has shown that serious problems can occur even in accidents of 5 miles per hour. If you are involved in an accident it is imperative to be examined by a doctor trained in dealing with soft tissue injuries.

Most doctors are not trained in the detection of these hidden injuries. Love Chiropractic Center doctors, Dr. Stephen and Tiffany Love, have had extensive training in dealing with the injuries of people involved in auto accidents.

If you have been in an auto accident recently, there are some important decisions you have to make.

Q: What if my car sustained only MINOR damage?

A: Research has shown that the amount of damage to the automobile bears little relation to the force that may be applied to the neck of the occupants. Accidents as little as 5 mph with no damage to the car has been shown to produce herniated discs in victims that may go undetected without being examined by a qualified medical physician.

Q. How soon after an auto accident should I come in to get checked out?

A. With any injury, the sooner it is examined, the sooner we can make recommendations of what to do to get that injury feeling better. Some times, we may not feel pain or problems from an accident for days, even weeks after an accident, and the longer these injuries go untreated, the longer they can take to get better. Our recommendation is to come in as soon as possible after a car accident, even if you feel that you may not be in pain, there may be some things that still need to be addressed.

Q: If I need treatment after an accident do I have to pay for it?

A: No, your car insurance company will cover your medical expenses if you are involved in a car accident. Some plans may have a deductible that you would be responsible for. Our office will assist you in obtaining all the information you need.

Q: If I saw my medical doctor do I really need to see a chiropractor?

A: You need a doctor who can focus on the treatment and diagnosis of auto accident related injuries. Most primary care doctors do not treat accident victims. Chiropractors are specially trained to treat accident victims, especially spinal alignment issues and soft tissue injuries.

Q: Should I see an attorney before the chiropractor?

A: It is very important to be checked out by a physician as soon as possible after you are involved in an accident in order to decide if an attorney is necessary for your situation. You may not need an attorney, but you do need a doctor who understands your injuries, and has an approach to get you better.
